Nice to see more reds now :)

Euro Trip

It has been a while that i had put up something on the blog...probably would attritube to the defacto factor of "laziness" on my part....

The summer has been exciting so far. Went on a long Eurotrip covering about 6 countries. It was just great in all aspects. Although the trip was tiring towards the last leg....but we somehow pulled through.

Here are some random thoughts and comments on my euro-city experiences

Train system in Europe is fabulous. Trains typically run on time and are connected to every part of the city. Awesome system and something that i have rarely seen in India and to some extent in US. Almost most of our trips within Europe was through eurorail.
  • London city was really good. Lot of historic buildings and the taxi car models there were really funny (atleast to me!) - the cars were small and had a vintage look. Big ben and london eye was terrific. Nothing could be equalled with a visit to Lords stadium and having a view from the pavillion . That was one of the top list of places that i always wanted to visit. Was happy to squeeze that onto my itienary.
  • Paris - Eiffel Tower was just awesome. Watching the majestic builing in night was a great experience. Apart from that (and may be shopping!!) i strongly believe there is nothing much to see in Paris ....an highly overated city with traffic congestions worse than in chennai.
  • Venice - We took a overnight train from Paris to Venice. This was our first train trip in europe and we had a cool fun experience. To put in a nutshull....we witnessed real drama of an arrogant italian old lady in the train :) Coming to Venice....Gondola ride!!! Finally got to see the water city :) Looked exactly the same as seen in movies and books.
  • Italy (Pisa/Florence) - Architectural paradise. Great city for art lovers. Pisa was just awesome!!
  • Munich/Salzburg - Munich a perfect metro city. Great place to hang out. Salzburg was truely a visitors treat. Great sceneries and a picture perfect town. You know what ?? Our great MTR instant mixes can be found in the Munich railway station as well !!
  • Switzerland - Ha...this was really fun experience. Apart from the usual treat of nature that swiss has, i was truely amazed and surprised by the desi crowd. Geez....there would be 1000's of desi junta. All the parks looked like "Nageswara park" in T.Nagar. Elderly couples going for evening walks, the shopping complexes flooded with desi junta's etc. I was truely shocked as how many folks from india come on for the summer trip to this part of the world. When i sit back and think how come - the top reason could be "globalization"....this had been a big factor boosting the so called middle class family back in india and has led a revolutionary change in the tourism industry. In the end i was actually happy that this tremendous wave has helped the other side of the world in almost all vertical segments.

Although the trip planning was arduous, had a great 17 day trip. Probably a high time to update the world map with the places that i have visited so far. See that in my next posting :)

Happy reading!
